AIR SQUARE

AIR SQUARE is a transportable venue designed to activate underused urban spaces by bringing purpose and vibrant public life to them. It responds to the urgent need to address climate challenges, particularly overexposed heat islands and the lack of green, livable public environments. The upper ring functions as a large shading system that mitigates heat, cools the space, and provides refuge during the day, while at night it delivers illumination to otherwise dark and less safe urban areas.
INCLUSIVE: Designed for diversity and equality, AIR SQUARE ensures barrier-free access and permeability within the natural flow of the city.
MODULAR, DURABLE, REUSABLE: Constructed from CNC-cut plywood planks with minimal material waste, the structure is based on a modular system of vertical legs and horizontal benches. Individual components are bolted together to form a circular load-bearing structure, ensuring stability while allowing for efficient assembly and disassembly.
ADAPTABLE: Movable benches enable a wide range of uses, from public gatherings and performances to farmers’ markets. As an all-in-one piece of public infrastructure, AIR SQUARE integrates seating, lighting, and shading into a single cohesive system.
