The potential of the Jandus Brothers Square in Prague Uhříněves is hidden in its fragility and complex intricacies of its plan. It is a space that encourages the organic cultivation of every nook and cranny and offers several essential tools for this purpose, such as water flow, quality greenery, or a connection to the primary school, which generates a significant volume of transients flowing through the area every day.
It was the school and its serviceability that became, to a certain extent, a determinant of the design. The task was to ensure the movement of children in the vicinity of congested roads, to move and coordinate the parking of parents who bring children to school, and to transform the parking space for primary school staff into the school front room (park). It was also important to offer children waiting for their parents a quality and safe public space and to transform the square into a park, which is not just a necessary transit corridor.
The second topic became the Říčanský stream together with the issue of floods. The cultivation of the waterfront, which is an important aspect of improving public space, has suddenly also become a question of how to deal with the overflow and slowing down the growth of the creek level.
The third issue was the “growing” solution of transport at rest, which in all urban projects is a hotbed between habitual users and pioneers of quality of life in cities.
The fusion of these three main determinants led to a fundamental shift of the bus turntable towards Přátelství Street. This creates a node that is able to offer school service even in the current situation, reduce the intensity of car traffic near residential buildings and facilitate the connection of the southern tip of the square with its central part.
The second essential element of the design is the location of the amphitheater in the vicinity of this turntable. The amphitheater cultivates the waterfront, but at the same time offers a large-capacity overflow “vessel” during floods (the surface composition is adapted for effective penetration). Another benefit of this space is its “running” under the road bridge. The resulting passage offers the safest option of connecting the northern and central parts of the square and ensures that the square functions as a whole. Here it is important to note that the amphitheater is designed as a real cultural facility, which we decided on the basis of the proximity of a non-regional attraction, the U 22 theater.

Potenciál náměstí Bratří Jandusů v Uhříněvsi je ukryt v jeho rozbitosti a složité spletitosti jeho plánu. Je to prostor, který vybízí k organické kultivaci každého svého zákoutí a nabízí k tomuto účelu několik zásadních nástrojů, jako je vodní tok, kvalitní vzrostlá zeleň, či návaznost na základní školu, která každodenně generuje nezanedbatelný objem transientů proudících přes řešené území.
Právě škola a její obslužnost se stala do určité míry determinantem návrhu. Úkolem bylo zbezpečnit pohyb dětí v blízosti přetížené komunikace, přesunout a koordinovat stání aut rodičů dovážejících děti do školy a transformovat prostor pro parkování zaměstnanců ZŠ na předprostor školy (park). Důležité bylo také nabídnout dětem čekající na rodiče kvalitní a bezpečný veřejný prostor a vůbec transformovat náměstí v park, který není jen nezbytným tranzitním koridorem.
Druhým tématem se stal Říčanský potok spolu s otázkou záplav. Kultivace nábřeží, která je důležitým aspektem zlepšování veřejného prostoru, se najednou stala také otázkou, jak řešit rozliv a zpomalování růstu hladiny potoka.
Třetí problemtikou bylo “rostlé” řešení dopravy v klidu, které je ve všech urbanistických projektech kolbištěm mezi navyklými uživateli a průkopníky kvality života ve městech.
Prolnutím těchto tří hlavních determinantů došlo k zásadnímu posunu autobusové točny směrem k ulici Přátelství. Vzniká tak uzel, který je schopen i za stávající situace nabídnout obslužnost školy, snížit intenzitu automobilové dopravy v blízkosti obytných budov a usnadnit propojení jižního cípu náměstí s jeho středovou částí.
Druhým zásadním elementem návrhu je umístění amfiteátru v sousedství této točny. Amfiteátr kultivuje nábřeží, ale zároveň nabízí během záplav velkokapacitní rozlivovou “nádobu” (povrchová skladba je uzpůsobena pro efektivní zásak). Dalším přínosem tohoto prostoru je jeho “proběhnutí” pod silničním mostem. Vzniklý průchod nabízí tu nejbezpečnější variantu propojení severní a středové části náměst a zajišťuje, že náměstí funguje jako jeden celek. Zde je důležité podotknout, že amfiteátr je navržen jako skutečné kulturní zařízení, pro které jsme se rozhodli na základě blízkosti nedregionálního atraktoru, divadla U 22.
